Travel provides girls with a safe opportunity to explore more than their own neighborhood, gain skills that will help them later in life, and opens their eyes to possibilities they never could have imagined without a different view of the world. The girls in my troops have used these trips as building blocks for their future. Some have studied abroad and some have moved away from home, while others have found jobs that incorporate travel and meeting new people.

My experience on the trip really made me think about Girl Scouting in a new way. I never before realized how international Girl Scouting is and the effect it has on girls not only in the US, but also around the world. On our trip I met girls from all of over the world including Japan, Ireland, and many other countries. This experience was one that I will never forget.

The Girl Scout trip opened up my eyes to the wider world around me in a whole new way. I met Girl Guides from Ireland, Japan, Switzerland and England, all of whom were working towards one goal: to empower young women. It made me realize how global the Girl Scouting movement really is, and how truly awesome it is to be a Girl Scout. In support of that goal, EF Tours took care of us, encouraged us and inspired us to see the world with fresh eyes – as global citizens and as Girl Scouts! I love you, Troop EF!

The trip became my new most significant cross-cultural experience as a Girl Scout… I met Girl Guides from Ireland, Holland, England, and Japan and by getting to know them, gained a new appreciation for Girl Scouting as part of the World Association for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. These girls came from totally different parts of the world, yet I realized they weren’t so different from the girls in my own council.

I use EF Educational Tours over other tour providers because of two Girl Scout concerns: safety and practicality. EF promises safety as much as humanly possible while on their trips, and the trips are practical because you know upfront what is expected from EF and from you. EF is affordable and makes planning a tour easy— they have the best people to work with in planning your trip.

The Seine River Cruise in Paris was so lively, and whenever we passed other boats, the Parisians and tourists on them would wave and smile, and they'd shout, "Bonsoir!" So we shouted back, and it was one of those things where everybody was complete strangers from completely different places and places in life, but we were all united in this fabulous city on this ancient river. The “best experience of the entire trip was going to Our Chalet, learning about its history and what they do for girls all over the world. GS is all about cultivating lifelong skills and character, regardless of nationality. To know that there is so much of the world outside of my own little sphere, is not only comforting but also inspiring.

As our group and our chaperones got off the plane, the first thing I thought was "wow, I'm in another country!" At the end of the day all 40 girl scouts took the metro to one of the girl scout world centers: The Pax Lodge in London! There we all got to learn about WAGGGS, be part of the pinning ceremony, and we even got to indulge in a customary British tradition: high tea with scones and pastries! Going on this trip has inspired me to do more global projects, and be more involved in the girl scouting movement.
